The Story
Elina served in the United States Navy from 1993 through 2004, reaching the rank of Storekeeper Second Class and earning the Surface Warfare qualification. Her assignments included the USS Cimarron in Pearl Harbor, the USS Holland in Guam, and the USNS Saturn in Norfolk.
Her Veterans Unmasked interview moves beyond the official service record. Elina speaks openly about Military Sexual Trauma, the psychological injuries that followed, the impact of PTSD, and the ways trauma shaped her relationships, self-worth, and life after service.
She also speaks about the difficult work of healing—learning to understand what happened, forgiving herself for the ways she survived, and reclaiming a voice that trauma had tried to take.
Why It Matters
Military Sexual Trauma is often carried privately for years. Survivors may struggle with shame, disbelief, damaged trust, PTSD, isolation, and the fear that speaking openly will cause further harm.
