A Legacy of Military Service

Raised in a patriotic family with generations of combat service dating back to the Civil War, Hansen continued that tradition by joining the United States Marine Corps. His story preserves both the weight of that inheritance and the personal path he forged within it.

Archive Preservation Statement

This interview has been recorded for preservation by Veterans Unmasked as part of The Legacy Archive, a permanent collection dedicated to safeguarding the stories of veterans, first responders, Gold Star families, caregivers, and their loved ones.

The full podcast episode, video interview, and related archive media will be added after production is complete. The archive record has been created now so the preservation of William Hansen’s story begins with the date his testimony was recorded.

The Story

William Hansen served in the United States Marine Corps from 1986 through 1996. During his career, he served in Infantry, Anti-Tank, and Embassy Security assignments.

His service took him to Norway, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Somalia. He served during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Restore Hope, carrying forward a family tradition of military service that had already endured for generations.

His Veterans Unmasked interview follows the journey from a young Marine entering a family legacy to a combat veteran carrying the experiences, responsibilities, humor, hardship, and memories of service into every chapter that followed.

Why It Matters

Military biographies often reduce a life to dates, units, deployments, and operations. Those facts matter, but they cannot fully preserve the person who lived through them.

Hansen’s story connects generations of service while preserving the personal reality behind that tradition: the missions accepted, the people remembered, the injuries carried, and the resilience required to continue building a life after the mission ends.

By preserving his testimony in his own voice, The Legacy Archive protects more than a service record. It protects the human story behind it.

A Life Across Missions

Military Tradition

Hansen was raised in a family whose history of combat service extended across generations, creating both an example to follow and a legacy to carry forward.

United States Marine Corps

From 1986 through 1996, Hansen served in Infantry, Anti-Tank, and Embassy Security roles, developing the discipline and identity that would remain with him long after active service.

Combat and Overseas Service

His service included deployments to Norway, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Somalia, including service during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Restore Hope.

Life After the Uniform

The years following military service brought new missions and new challenges, including work as a contractor and a life-changing injury in January 2009 after completing an extended mission.

The Legacy Archive

On July 24, 2026, Hansen sat down with Veterans Unmasked to record the experiences behind the uniform and preserve them for his family, his community, and future generations.
